Commodity Manager

Oversees, within limits of delegated authority, the approval and control of the purchasing function of the organization for specific product commodities and suppliers. Responsible for the management of key commodities, supplier selection and rationalization, negotiation, commodity strategy, supplier development, quality, delivery and management of total cost reduction efforts within those commodities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, enhancing supplier strategy, capability and relationships and ensuring that the company meets or exceeds customer expectations with every product we deliver. As part of the Strategic Procurement team, this position is closely aligned with company�s vision and strategic initiatives, focusing on gap analysis, identification of current state improvement opportunities and development of the future state processes in regard to the supply base.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
� Establishes effective supplier relationships and focuses on supplier development efforts for best total cost, delivery and quality at the source. � Keeps abreast of price trends, makes recommendations on the timing and quantity of purchases, and the establishment of most economical purchase quantities. � Visits suppliers and negotiates contracts for goods, services and supplies. � Evaluates supplier capacity and ability to meet quality requirements, specifications, costs and delivery dates. � Monitors contractual obligations for compliance. � Engages in interactive communications with operations regarding their needs for purchased parts. � Performs supplier qualifications, supplier audits and supplier risk assessments. � Ensures supply base is capable and quality acceptable for new parts for new product development. � Resolves disputed items with suppliers. Reviews and processes claims against suppliers for unsatisfactory materials or equipment. � Facilitates standard procurement practices. � Works with production, research, engineering and other departments in the development of equipment, product specifications, flow of materials and substitute materials. � Follows all corporate policies and procedures for Procurement.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise others as defined. Direct reports may range from 1 � 2 members.
Experience/Education Required
Prior experience and success in supplier relationships and supplier development. Excellent interpersonal skills to manage suppliers and work effectively with internal customers. Experience and proven success in negotiations, which produced cost effective pricing and inventory results. Experience in meeting target goals and initiatives for cost savings, inventory reduction, payment terms. Experience with continuous improvement, RCI and Lean Manufacturing tools. Demonstrated ability to lead change and handle multiple suppliers, products and projects in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of statistical and technical improvement processes (FMEA, DFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, Process Mapping and creation of clear, concise standard work). Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills with prior leadership experience. Five (5) years of demonstrated professional experience in purchasing, materials management in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor�s Degree in Procurement, Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field preferred.
Skills/Knowledge Required
Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills. Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills required. Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) preferred.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally10% - 15%
