“Lean Six Sigma in a public service environment”
The theme for this month’s PDM will be how Erie County is leveraging Lean Six Sigma to run government like a business. Mr. Carey will cover the program organization, training, Belt candidate selection, project selection, culture change, challenges, and project results to date. He will review several examples of County employee led opportunities that have delivered significant benefits to the taxpayers of Erie County as well as employees work environment. This cross section of projects cover County Departments such as; Parks, Social Services, Probation, Health, Real Property Taxes, Purchasing, Central Police Services, County Attorney, Sewers, Public Works, Mental Health, Sheriff, Personnel, Information and Support Services, etc. He will also provide an update on the attention and recognition Erie County is receiving from other government entities and Lean Six Sigma organizations.

Bill Carey

Mr. Bill Carey has a long and distinguished career in Banking and Finance. He joined Erie County in September 2008 from M&T Bank in Buffalo where he was Senior Vice
President of Lending Process and System Optimization. Prior to joining M&T in 2001, he
worked for HSBC Bank for 19 years, including 4 years in Hong Kong. Bill has an MBA in Finance from Canisius College and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Bill is a Certified Public Accountant, and received his Black Belt certification from the Center for Industrial Effectiveness at the University of Buffalo.
